Algorithm Ecology
How (and why) I plan to use the phrase "algorithm ecology" to frame my dissertation as a fusion of algorithm auditing and media ecology.
For now, I have decided against using the term "artificial intelligence" in my dissertation. You can read more about that in my medium post, "Killing AI."
For now, I wanted to share a brief teaser (and another fun scrabble picture) about a key term I do plan to use: algorithm ecology.
In brief, I am thinking of algorithm ecology as a fusion of "media ecology," which many academics criticize for its lack of empirical evidence, and "algorithm auditing," which has received criticism for a lack of philosophical grounding.
